In Your Greatest Moments of Stress There Is Also the Opportunity For Great Change

I have worked as a mental health care professional for over two decades. In that time, I’ve seen many people struggling to figure out why their lives feel so hard, why they can’t just “get over things and get on with life”. Quite often the reason is because it’s nearly impossible to figure it all out on your own. We are social beings, and even the most introverted person still needs human connection. In moments of crisis, that’s when many people finally feel like it’s time to see a therapist - which is where I come in.

As a therapist, a big part of what I do is around connection and understanding

I think the longer I live, the more I realize that everyone has their reasons for the things they do. We are all doing the best we can with the tools we have available, therapy is simply about giving you better tools to live. I have my own tools that I use to help my clients. I have many therapeutic techniques to support healing: I’m a trained EMDR therapist, I’m trauma informed, I know CBT, DBT, I’ve taught Solutions Focused therapy and I also have extensive and varied couple counselling training.

Really what I do is build a connection with you - person to person, so we can figure out together what is happening and why. If you find yourself having the same problem popping up again and again, maybe at work, or in relationships, perhaps with anger, or an inability to speak up and really get your point across - counselling can help.

Counselling Allowed Me to Process My Past and Move Beyond It

Any therapist worth their salt has seen their own counsellor - and I have seen some great people over the years. Growing up, I witnessed rage, substance use, suicidality, and chronic illness in my home. This definitely impacted how I lived in the world and related to others. It also planted the seed inside of me to want to do better, and to figure out why people struggle emotionally, and how to help.

With the support of a great therapist, I learned how to be present, how to walk in my own skin, how to accept and care for myself. I learned how to assert myself and set reasonable boundaries.  How to manage my emotions and to appropriately share my feelings.  Most importantly, I discovered how to be in a relationship - which was life changing (for both me and my wife). I am a father to three grown children, and I feel so grateful for therapy, because it’s a big part of why I continue to have meaningful connections with my family.

How I Work with Couples

Most couples who come to me have been struggling with conflict for quite a while. Often what needs to be explored is communication, and new ways to connect. Not many of us were taught how to really be in a functional relationship, but the good news is, it’s never too late to learn. I’m here to guide you through that process, and also explore why you fell in love in the first place, and to help you find your way back to that loving feeling.

Your Can Rewrite Your Story

No matter how hard today has been, or what your past is like, your tomorrow can be different. If you are living and are capable of holding a conversation - there is hope. I’m here to help you on your path, to pass along the tools that I know work, and to give you a soft place to drop the heavy stuff that’s been a burden for way too long. If you feel ready to try something new, reach out. I’m accepting new clients and look forward to connecting.
