Eating Disorders
“Recovery doesn’t mean putting your life on hold. Recovery means holding on so you can live your best life.”
Brittany Burgunder
It’s hard to ask for help when you have an eating disorder. If you feel ready, we’re here to offer compassionate care.
Talking to a therapist about your struggles is a first step towards feeling better, and reconnecting with the world around you.
At The Dot we offer specialized psychotherapy for people living with an eating disorder and extra support (upon request)from a mental health and eating disorder informed Registered Dietitian. We Additionally, we provide therapy for other underlying stressors and mental health related struggles you may be experiencing, such as family conflict, anxiety, OCD, grief, and depression.
Supporting People Experiencing Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, Food Preoccupation, and Disordered Eating (ARFID and OSFED)
We have multiple therapists who have been caring for folks with eating disorders for years and have a deep understanding of the different types of eating disorders that people live with. You’ll be able to see someone who will meet you where you are at in terms of your recovery journey. If you no longer feel in control, if you want to stop, or you need support with harm reduction, we are here to support you.
Along with therapy for eating disorders our counsellors are highly skilled at working with trauma. Seeing someone who understands how to support you with underlying trauma can provide a much-needed safe environment to heal in, especially for those with childhood trauma, abuse and neglect.
Mental Health, and Eating Disorder Informed Nutrition Care from A Registered Dietitian
Our Registered Dietitian Heather Bray has experience in helping people living with eating disorders, and she is a Certified Intuitive Eating Specialist.
Being a Registered Dietitian means Heather is a part of a regulated profession, so she is always continuing to update her education and learn more about the best ways to support your health and wellbeing. Heather is able to look at your current eating plan to see if there are any deficiencies in any specific nutrients and make recommendations for tweaks and gentle improvements. She is also available to help folks work through food fears and can do this in conjunction with any work you do with your therapist or other care providers.
Combined, or Separate Support for Eating Disorders - The Choice Is Yours
We are here to help people who want to work on their wellbeing, both mental and physical.
Depending on what stage you are at within your recovery process, you may want to see both a therapist and a Registered Dietitian as you heal. We are happy to offer that choice - with the choice of also having your therapist with you when you speak with our Dietitian, so that you have all of the support you need.
We are also aware that now might not feel like the right moment to begin work around your nutrition, and the choice is entirely yours of if you’d prefer to just see a therapist at this time.
Your Mental Health Matters - And So Does Your Physical Wellbeing
At The Dot, we want to ensure that you get the right care for what you currently need in your life. This means that if your physical health needs immediate medical attention, your focus needs to be on that aspect of your self-care - and counselling may have to wait until you have greater stability and are properly cared for by a healthcare provider. If you are medically stable and are not at risk of needing to be hospitalized, then your focus can shift to your emotional health - and that’s where we can offer our support.
Please reach out for a free consultation with our eating disorder therapist or with our Registered Dietitian, they are both currently accepting new clients.
We promise to nurture a space where you feel safe and valued - as you are - so you can explore what you want from your future with no judgment or fear of failure.
We view counselling as a joint process between you and your counsellor as we work towards a common goal — to empower positive change and improve the quality of your life — both now and in the future.
As mental health care professionals, our purpose is to help you identify your obstacles that are causing anxiety. We promise to serve as your guide, helping you find your path and discover opportunities for growth along the way.
We will look at your current situation more in-depth to help you understand what’s holding you back and what’s causing you to feel so overwhelmed. From there we will get to the heart of your difficulties, make a plan, and help you develop the skills you need so you can better manage or resolve what’s troubling you.
Our goal is that by the end of our sessions you will not only have found relief, but you will feel empowered to boldly grow forward towards the life you want.
Or, let us help you find that right therapist fit.
The form takes less than 60 seconds to complete, and we’ll reach out with a couple of options for a free 20 minute consultation.
