Seeing A Therapist Is a Time to Be Truly Heard and Understood

Being listened to, and actually feeling understood seems to be a rare thing these days. Sitting with a therapist who isn’t distracted and is actively there just for you may feel unusual at first but that’s the thing with therapy, it’s not your everyday experience, it is a time just for you. In our sessions, we start from your current point of need, and together, we look at the challenges you are facing to improve both your inner and outer worlds.

I support individuals dealing with trauma, anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship issues, and self-esteem/self-confidence. I am here to provide acceptance, curiosity, and fresh insights into what may seem unchangeable in your life. The top mental health modalities I use in sessions are: EMDR, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Parts Work (Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed). I am also trained in and may integrate these supports into our sessions if needed: CBT, self-compassion, mindfulness & somatic techniques.

What You Can Expect from Therapy with Me

I am a trauma informed therapist and, in our sessions, I am dedicated to making sure you feel supported and cared for while you are with me. Your story, your experiences, and your world are what’s most important to me. Working with both talk and embodied approaches, my interest is supporting you in connecting with your inner truth and wisdom. By balancing out the chaos with the calm, I’m here to provide breathing space so you can figure out what you really want out of life.

Together, we will explore and assess why you’re feeling the way you are, and what the best path forward is. Everything is tailored to your personal challenges and goals, there is no one size that fits all therapeutic approaches, and I may use a number of different approaches to support your growth and healing.

My journey: From Law to Therapy

My own path to therapy was unconventional, beginning with a career in law. As a teenager with a love of public speaking and debate, pursuing law seemed like a natural choice. Encouraged by mentors and family, I dedicated myself to this goal, despite an underlying sense that it might not be my true calling.

My legal career spanned various fields - environmental law, Indigenous rights, and family law. Yet, in each role, I felt a disconnect between what I was doing, and who I was. The practice of law didn't really resonate with the life I envisioned for myself. I began to want a deeper connection with others. The aspect of law that did resonate with me was the human connection – understanding and aiding people through significant life changes. This realization, coupled with my own experiences in counselling, propelled me towards a career as a therapist.

Finding Fulfillment Along Life’s Many Paths

Fun fact about me: I am an ultramarathon runner and have been for years. As both a therapist, and a runner, I’ve seen how resilient people can be, and with the right support - that strength can grow. There is a place for endurance, and for tolerating discomfort, but if you feel like most of your day, every day is just one long marathon, without much rest or joy, it might be time to get some outside support to see if you can find a better way to journey through your life.

Therapy isn't just for navigating crises; it's also about enhancing your day to day life, even when things are "okay”. With the right care, you can make new shifts that help you align more authentically with your values and goals, for a future you that feels stronger and more empowered.
