You May Feel Like You Have To Prove Your Worth, But You Are Worthy, Just As You Are

As a therapist, I’ve seen so many good people, who believe they are not “good enough”. A big part of my job is helping you to see who you are through a more compassionate set of eyes, to begin trusting your inner voice, and to believe in yourself.

I take a holistic integrative approach to therapy. I recognize that we are all walking our own path, at a different pace, with different ways of getting by. Therapy is about finding what works for you. I utilize various approaches to support your healing, including, EMDR therapy, mindfulness, CBT, and Polyvagal informed approaches. I understand that therapy is just as much as what’s happening in your body as it is your mind.

I am passionate about trauma and have trained as a Clinical Traumatologist and EMDR therapist. I offer various options to be able to heal and process PTSD and other trauma conditions.  I also provide clinical supervision to other Registered Psychotherapists who are looking to expand their skill set.

Your Experiences Have Shaped Who You Are, But They Don’t Have To Define How You Live

Here’s the thing, you cannot erase your past, but it doesn’t have to control your future, or even how you live today. I’m here to support you in taking back your power and feeling more in control of your life. Therapy is a process that can be both challenging and beautiful, because you begin to see the possibilities in yourself again, and then you learn that it’s up to you to make the changes to have a better life. The good thing? You don’t have to do it alone, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

You Can Be a Great Parent, No Matter What Your Own Childhood Was Like

I have a very tender spot in my heart for helping parents who want to do better for their children than they experienced in their own childhood. I’m a mom of two children myself and this aspect of life is something that I’ve learned more from than almost anything else. If you’re struggling with parenthood, and  need support in this area, I am happy to provide it.

Along with being a mother, I worked within the public school system for 8 years and helped many kids and primary caregivers to find more care and balance in their lives. I approach parenting therapy from a place of compassion and curiosity of your life, and how your past may be bringing up feelings in the present with your children.

My Story and Journey

I grew up in a small town, in a working class family of 3 children. There were times that we struggled, and times where things were more peaceful.  I understand the difficulties that come with divorced parents and the blessings of gaining new family members.  I’ve dealt with bullying at school, struggled with rejections from colleges, and had my fair share of experiences working tirelessly while trying to better my own life.

The determination to grow and  “better” myself pushed me to aspire to gain my bachelors degree.  After University I found myself in Calgary, Alberta, which ultimately led to finding my passion in supporting others.

My professional career began at an Autism support organization, where I provided care for children on the Autism spectrum. From there I worked in the shelter system with kids and women who had recently escaped domestic abuse situations.

It was during my time working at a shelter that I saw how important trauma informed therapy was, and I decided to go back to school to get my Masters in Counselling Therapy. The rest, as they say, is history.

It Takes More Energy To Hide Who You Are, Then It Does To Shine Your Unique Light

I think for many, especially if you’re a trauma survivor, it can feel like who you are is somehow less than, or unacceptable compared to other people. So many clients I’ve seen have spent years trying to fit in, and are exhausted by that process.

I understand the impact and energy it takes to not show up authentically, and how hard it is to challenge and change those long held beliefs. But life can have more meaning, and there’s so much more room for joy if you can begin to show up as yourself. When you start to find compassion for who you are, and appreciate what you have to offer, it becomes easier to gain confidence and to build better relationships with others in your life.
