Seeing a therapist can shed light on life’s blind spots

In the labyrinth of life, we often stumble upon unseen obstacles—our personal blind spots that shape our feelings, behaviors, and relationships, often eluding our consciousness. As a seasoned psychotherapist with over 25 years in the field, I specialize in bringing these hidden facets to light, aiding in your journey towards self-discovery and fulfillment. This process is vital for navigating complex challenges like trauma, anxiety, depression, and life's pivotal transitions, enabling you to understand and overcome the unseen forces that influence your life's direction.

Working weekly with my clients, and utilizing a blend of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Therapy, my approach is engaging and collaborative. Together, we'll explore the depths of your psyche, uncovering and understanding the why behind your actions and feelings. This exploration is not just about gaining insights; it's about empowering you to make informed choices and changes, fostering personal growth and a more satisfying life.

Psychoanalysis is about finding out more about who you are

The term Psychoanalytic psychotherapy can bring up ideas that someone is going to “analyze” you. This is not how modern psychoanalytic psychotherapy works. You are very much a part of the process, and it’s not like the old fashion idea where you’re just laying back on a couch and talking while I take notes. As we work together weekly in sessions, my approach to Psychoanalysis is collaborative and exploratory. It’s a process of really getting to know your subconscious! You’ll learn why you do the things you do, and how to be more mindful and in control over your own actions.

We sometimes address your dreams in therapy sessions and learn what they may be expressing. This form of therapy brings with it the opportunity to really grow as a person, to discover things about yourself that may have been holding you back in life, and then finally breaking free and moving forward. It can be helpful for unresolved trauma, depression, anxiety, and unwanted behavioral problems.

Support for parents

Before moving to Canada, I worked as a clinical psychologist, with both adults and children. I am also a mother of two grown children, and understand the struggles of parenthood.

Because of this education and experience, I have really enjoyed being able to support parents/caregivers who are struggling with how to best be there, and connect with their children. I am able to see parents together if they are a couple, or separately if they live apart.

Sometimes having that outside perspective, from someone who understands the developmental stages that children go through, (as well as the parental frustrations of trying to live through some of those stages) can really help to clarify what to do in certain situations.

My journey to becoming a therapist

My story of how I became a therapist began with a journey when I was just eight years old. Until that age, I lived in Argentina with my family. Then the country was under a fierce dictatorship and it became increasingly clear that we needed to flee for our safety. We were fortunate that we were able to find refuge in Israel and begin a new life there, but that journey, and the reasons for it, left an indelible mark on everyone in my family. I like to joke that half of us became therapists to cope, while the other half are patients. In truth, almost all of us have sought out therapeutic support for that time in our lives.

From that experience, I became curious about how our experiences impact our minds, and the different ways we are able to grow and heal (I love how resilient humans are when given the right support). I began to study Psychology as soon as I was able and worked as a high school teacher while furthering my own education. This was a time of great learning and connection for me. Soon after I started my career as a psychologist in Israel and provided therapy for many children and adults.

About 10 years ago, I moved to Canada with my family, where I live today in Burlington and provide psychotherapy to adults and adolescents.

Are you committed to this next chapter in your life?

The wonderful thing about life is that it’s always changing. Sometimes that’s due to circumstances beyond your control, but sometimes it is because you decide it’s time for a change. Is now the time to begin a new chapter in your life? It doesn’t have to be something big, but an internal shift in your inner world can often have positive effects on your outer world as well.

Something to note about how I work as a therapist, is that I do ask that you begin therapy with weekly sessions, which is a commitment. I have learned in my years as a therapist, that with my approach to therapy, weekly sessions are a key part of keeping momentum and the progression of your healing process. There does often come a time when you can reduce down to bi-weekly sessions, but for the first few months, weekly is needed.

If you feel ready, or even just curious about how therapy might be able to help you get a new perspective on your life, please reach out. I’m accepting new clients.
