I’m a Therapist Who Specializes in Trauma-informed Therapy

If you’ve felt misunderstood or dismissed when talking about your pain and stress with friends or even professionals, I want you to know that I will take your struggles seriously. My focus as a therapist is specifically around supporting people with various kinds of trauma, including childhood trauma, abusive relationships, sexual abuse and assault, workplace incidents, narcissistic abuse, trauma from accidents, long term neglect, or single traumatic incidents. I have extensive training in a type of therapy that was designed for trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD, called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). This type of therapy has been transformational for many people living with the daily impacts of trauma.

I also have a very special spot in my heart for parents who are doing their best to heal from their pasts while also giving their all to being good caregivers to their children. I am a mother myself (I have a blended multi-racial family with 5 children) and offer therapy for parents. I have taken Gottman parenting training to support parents and caregivers of children and youth.

Through My Own Healing Journey, I Was Inspired to Help Others

One large reason that I decided to become a trauma therapist is because I am a trauma survivor myself. I’ve seen the transformational effects that seeing a trusted mental health professional can provide. Earlier on in my life I was struggling and made the decision to really focus on my health and wellbeing and searched out a therapist who could help me. I saw an EMDR therapist, and that time I spent in therapy was absolutely life changing. It helped me in so many ways, and I saw many barriers that were holding me back fade away.

After much of my own healing had taken place, I was motivated to become a therapist myself, because I know the hopelessness that can come from living with pain from the past, and I also know that healing from trauma is one of the most empowering things you can do for your life.

Healing from Trauma Can Happen

Everyone’s pain is unique, but I do believe that there is always hope, even if it’s just a tiny spark. Talking to someone who understands, from both professional and personal experience can provide you with unique insights and tools for your healing and growth. Therapy takes time, especially when it comes to deep trauma, but it is time well spent and it brings with it real relief and the opportunity for meaningful change.

Counselling Can Help You to Embrace Your Power and Your Vulnerability

When you are properly supported, therapy can help you to feel both empowered, and safe to be vulnerable with your loved ones. It can be hard when you’ve lived with pain for a long time, but your strength and your softness can coexist and even complement each other. Together, we’ll create a space where you can explore your feelings, find clarity, and confidence.
