Therapy Is About Transforming Your Pain Into Purpose

We all have emotional wounds we carry throughout our lives. As a therapist, I’ve encountered many who are walking their own paths of healing, and I understand firsthand the residual trauma that can shape our journeys. My philosophy is rooted in seeing each person as someone striving to do their best with the tools they have. During our time together, I hope to provide you with support and a fresh perspective. Together, we will explore how you can uncover greater purpose and meaning in your life.

I am a Registered Social Worker and have a Masters of Social Work. For the past several years, I’ve been a practicing therapist and although I have an integrative approach to how I support my clients, I am trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) , and use DBT(Dialectical Behavioural Therapy)  and ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy). My main modality that I use with many clients is EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing). This is a form of therapy that has been studied extensively in the treatment of trauma, in particular PTSD and can be helpful with other conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, chronic pain and grief/loss to name a few.

I offer supportive care for people from a variety of backgrounds, but I especially excel at supporting Female identified going through large life transitions (graduation, divorce, career changes, menopause). I also have an interest in supporting older adults, people experiencing existential crisis (who am I, what am I here for), as well as those who have alternative relationships models. I have firsthand experience with 2SLGBTQIA+ community as a parent, activist and advocate of a trans son. It is my goal to create a welcoming and inclusive space where everyone I connect with feels heard and valued.

Starting Your Journey From Where You Are Today

As your therapist, I am fully present with you in each session, meeting you exactly where you are at the moment. Together, we will gently explore what makes you who you are. Our conversations will help you to have more curiosity about yourself and deepen your awareness of your experiences. At times, we’ll focus on applying these insights to your daily life, creating a personalized "owner’s manual". One that helps you to recognize that your feelings and reactions are valid, and that your thoughts and behaviors are also understandable given your circumstances.

Depending on your needs, we may incorporate EMDR sessions into your therapy to help you address and heal deep-rooted traumas. This approach can prevent past experiences from entangling with your daily life and relationships, allowing you to move forward with greater clarity and resilience.

EMDR Intensives For Those Who Want a More Focused Therapy Experience

I also offer longer sessions for EMDR which can be especially helpful for those who are recovering from a specific traumatic event and are temporarily off work. This could be if you’re a teacher, a police officer, an EMT, a PSW or anyone else who may have experienced a traumatic event and who is highly motivated to work on recovery from that trauma. These EMDR sessions are 90 minutes instead of the standard 50 minutes and can be offered with multiple sessions per week. This may help you to move through recovery at a different pace than traditional talk therapy.

It is important to note that this kind of intensive EMDR therapy isn’t for everyone. If you are experiencing severe mental health concerns, or having challenges with substance use, those concerns should be addressed before engaging in EMDR therapy. It’s also important that you have a good support system around you in your home life, as well as other considerations we can discuss. For people who have a specific trauma event, or have the capacity for longer EMDR sessions, this approach may work well.

A Path Towards Healing And Hope

Before becoming a mental health professional, I went to therapy myself. I understand how challenging it can be to navigate overwhelming emotions and to trust that there is solid ground ahead. I want you to know that growth and healing are not just possible; they can be your reality. My own experiences in therapy have enriched my ability to support clients, and I‘ve gained valuable insights from my counselors over the years. I recognize how difficult it can be to find the courage to take that first step and begin therapy. Together, we will explore your feelings, helping you to tap into your strengths and to feel hopeful again as you move toward a more empowered and fulfilling future.

Therapy Can Be About Discovering Who You Really Are

While many people seek out therapy to address deep-rooted issues impacting their lives, sometimes that motivation comes from a sense of unexplored curiosity or an inner restlessness that can no longer be ignored. Seeking therapy during such times is a valid and important step in understanding yourself. In today’s fast-paced world, it can be challenging to dig deep and explore your meaning and purpose in life-to look at what’s missing or where you truly belong. As your therapist, I’m here to support you in your self-discovery and to explore the questions that matter most to you.

What You’re Going Through Is Real, and So is The Strength Within You
